B+W Commission. Leather pants. by baby-marshmallow B+W Commission. Leather pants. by baby-marshmallow
One of the very last images I did before I started dabbling with digital inking. This is one of the very few traditionally inked illustrations I've done that when I look back on it I don't feel sick to my stomach because of the messy inking lines. This was challenging because I wanted to see how much detail I could manage on a black and white image without it becoming too confusing or cluttered, this just showed me I can get away with quite a bit. Also one of my first ventures into using digital screentones, I've got alot of ideas on new ones, and a much more defined way to make them so I'm excited to try them out again.

It's a little simple, but I don't think it was bad for my first time.

Thanks I like 'em too, even tho quite a bit of detail was lost thanks to the substandard inking.

i really like the detail in his outfit, all the small gadgets on his clothes make it look really 3D as opposed to flat, the movement in the water and his hair give him real presence and a sense of power, his expression reinforces that, the tones are well placed and add to the picture a great deal, the sky is good and the background is just so that it doesnt overwhelm or take over the picture, nice job :D

My two cents on the composition: I think it will help add to the effect if you pull away from the character a little bit so you see a tad more of the background. Some of the water spirals are cropped off because of the close up and I think you will make him look more awesome if the viewers get a full look of what he can do with the waters.

Unfortunately that ship has passed. When I was doing it I had a similar idea but the important thing to the client was the character and they wanted to see as much of him as possible, so I used up as much space as I could on him.

Thanks, the person who requested the commission thought so too, we had a whole discussion about weak and strong chins and the like.

Not me, I gotta' have the smooth inks, the smoother the better. Thanks for the comment.
By the way, Dragon Bonzai is gorgeous, inking is superb, looks like it must have taken a while, especially since it's only a quarter of the entire image? Wow.
