R Green Elf Princess Faux-Inks

Description

Here is yet another Randy Green :iconrandygreen: image I've tackled. The plan was to ink it regularly but since the original pencil image was a quick con-sketch I was going over and filling in some parts of the pencils to get a better guide for inking (for me inking with paths and the pen tool doesn't lend itself very well to experimentation with composition so I find it better to have solid pencil lines to work off of).
After a while of that I decided to just try going over the lines with my stylus and see if I could actually pull off the 'inking' that way. I didn't have very high hopes because I don't feel comfortable drawing at high resolutions and so I stick to 150 pixels per inch for drawing instead of the 300 per inch I use for inking and colouring. I tried the 300 for a while, but it just didn't work out so then I went back to 150 and experiemented, trying hard to find the easiest way to get the solid blacks in there.

This is the end result, the line quality isn't as good as path inking, the line weights aren't nearly as varied and I'm still a bit sorry that I can't get smaller lines in some cases. However, the big question is is this adequate enough that I can forego inking in some instances and just keep it as this type of dark ' pencils' to save the time but still feel that the overall quality isn't cheating myself, the viewer and the image itself.
What do you think?

I really like the subtle greyscale tones you used on this.
